The
function of computer eyewear is to correct the vision and ergonomically correct the posture at a specific
distance while sitting in front of a computer screen.
These task specific glasses are recommended for
those who wear progressive or bifocal lenses. Many people
commonly experience neck or back problems and can develop
headaches due to the positioning of the head to view the screen through the
bottom
portion of the lens.
A measurement is taken to determine the
distance a person sits from the screen, usually 19" to 24".
The "computer" prescription is then calculated from the
eyeglass RX.
Contrasting tints, UV 400
(ultraviolet) filter, and Anti-Reflective Coating (ARC) are all very helpful tools to
increase comfort and productivity.
TIP: Burning eyes, headaches, or
eye strain are usually caused by infrequent breaks. Every 20-30
take a 5 minute break from the screen to relax the eye
muscles. Frequent and deliberate blinking is also recommended to reduce
dry eye syndrome. If one or more of these conditions persists after
following these suggestions, you should consult your eye care physician.
